After some years at the University of Innsbruck, he returned to Vienna (1877) as extraordinary professor; named to succeed Stellwag von Carion as full professor in 1894, he died before he could assume his duties. As teacher and writer, Mauthner was an authority on ophthalmology, refraction, and motor anomalies of the eye; a renowned surgeon, he is credited with the introduction of sclerotomy for the treatment of glaucoma“ (A./N. 221). – Gering gewellt, teils minimal fleckig.
